Solar panels: which specs actually matter?

Panel wattage (Wp) tells you peak output, but temperature coefficient matters more in Thailand's heat — look for values around –0.35%/°C or better, as panels lose output on very hot days. Module efficiency (18–22%) determines how many panels fit on your roof. The most important warranty is the linear power output guarantee: quality manufacturers warrant 80%+ output at 25 years. Avoid panels without a traceable manufacturer warranty.

Inverters

String inverter vs. hybrid: which is right for you?

On-grid string inverters (like Solis S6-GR1P) are the simplest, most cost-effective choice for homes and businesses with daytime electricity use. Hybrid inverters add a battery port, allowing you to store midday solar energy for evening use — worthwhile if your evening bill is high or you want backup power during outages. Microinverters place a small inverter on each panel, useful when significant shading is unavoidable, but add cost and complexity.

Battery

Should you add a battery to your system?

A battery makes financial sense when: your electricity consumption is high in the evening (after solar production stops), your tariff has a significant peak/off-peak difference, or you need backup power during outages. In Thailand, most residential on-grid systems without batteries already achieve 6–8 year payback. Adding a battery typically extends payback by 2–4 years but provides energy security. Reassess battery economics every 2–3 years as battery prices continue to fall.
